On 24 February 2022, Russian troops invaded the sovereign state of Ukraine. Since that date, the Ukrainian people as a whole – government, military, civil society and countless nameless individuals – have offered a heroic and improbably successful resistance to the invaders. In recognition of this effort, the European Parliament has awarded the 2022 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to the valiant people of Ukraine. As the war drags on, reports of Russian war crimes increase. To ensure that these can be brought to Court, the organisation „The Reckoning Project“ unites journalists and law- yers with the aim to document, verify, and codify legal evidence of war crimes cases. To this aim, the REC has published several short films that not only document war crimes, but at the same time giving a haunting insight into what daily life in war-torn Ukraine is like.
